BY LYDIA ANN LAKE
Lydia Ann Lake, daughter of James and Philomelia, tells of the bravery of Price Williams Nelson while crossing the Plains to Utah in her father's company: The most vivid event of the journey occured at Green River, Wyo. In crossing the river a wagon box floated off and began drifting downstream. In the box were a young woman named Snider and a girl about nine years old. All was excitement for a few minutes. The only man of the company who dared swim the stream and effect a rescue was a youth named Price Williams Nelson. Up to that time I had paid no particular attention to him. He was of a quiet nature and I knew nothing of him except that he drove his aunt's team. After this event we two became better acquainted, which resulted in our marriage after arriving in Salt Lake Valley. (Lydia Ann fails to specify if Price's rescue attempt is successful but implies the woman and girl are brought to land safely.)
