Council District 6

Many of you have no doubt been made aware of the attack on our city government in general and Councilor Medlock and me specifically by a handful of special interests, supported by our local “newspaper”. It appears that these individuals don’t even live in District 6 or District 2. See BatesLine: Medlock responds to Ken Neal. Rather than dirty their hands, these “business leaders” have hired college students at $10 per hour to obtain signatures on the recall petitions.
Why are these individuals attacking us at this time? Quite simply, five city councilors representing the people’s interest are asking some hard questions about the status quo and whether it is truly serving the public’s interest . The answers being received are pointing out deficiencies with Tulsa’s government and the identification of special interests that have been profiting from your tax dollars for years. Obviously they are upset at the possibility their dealings are in the process of being disrupted. For that reason, we are now engaged in this recall process.
The recall process for any elected official in Tulsa is quite simple and the threshold required to actually affect our government is extremely light. For that reason, it is important we all take this affront to our representation seriously and individually participate in stopping the recall process presently underway. See my formal response to the recall petition at Reply to Recall. Call and join with me in resisting the tyranny of special interests who wish to reverse Tulsans’ first choices of Councilors for their districts.

SPECIAL ADDENDUM:
March 14, 2005
Concerned individuals have recently contacted KFAQ to request access to recall petition data for Council District 6. They are interested because they were called numerous times by out-of-state solicitors of recall signatures. As a service to these fine supporters so that they may be certain their names were not nefariously added to the list I am making the data available by clicking here. The data is sorted first by precinct then by last name.
Hopefully by making the list available it will help to alleviate the concerns of those wondering whether they have been targeted by an unscrupulous activity. If you find your name has been added to the petition and you did not intend for such an action to happen kindly call me at 596-1926 and I will make certain the appropriate officials are apprised of the situation.
While at my website, please take the time to review other information available. There is a link for those of you who might want to support me in combating this ironic situation. Your help would be appreciated as we strive to defend our right to ask questions about the way parts of Tulsa government and special interests appear to coexist.
