My brother and I were twins. We were born in
Rowes Run on what is now called second street. It was the corner house near the store,
(The store was not to be confused with the Union Supply Company.)
The store actually consisted of a store on top floor and a hall on the
bottom. I first remember the hall being used for roller skating; then later it was a
hang out called the Juke Box. I remember going their when I was in high school.
Shortly after I was born, my family moved to house #466, the same block as the Union
Supply Company and gas station. I lived there till I graduated in 1964 and went in to the
Air Force. My sister still lives in that house.
Our name is Lowery; however, my mother was all Hungarian. She came from
the Indiana, Pa. area. My mother made some of the best cabbage rolls in the patch, and
taught my wife some of her cooking secrets. My dad was from Coolspring area, Nubbin Ridge.
He was a coal miner his whole life, working out of the Colonial #3 Shaft, and finishing
out at Maple Creek Shaft.
