2/23/2003 – Last Notice

We hope to see you at the First Baptist Church in Albertville at 6:30 p.m. on May 16th for registration.  On May 17th there will be a golf tournament for those who want to participate and the banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening. 

There will be an optional church service on Sunday, May 18th.

The “Keepsake Booklet” has gone to the printers.  It has 60 pages with 48 biographical sketches.  It will contain pictures of almost all classmates, both living and deceased.  And best of all, we were able to produce it for $11 each.

 

12/11/2002 – Another Classmate is Gone

Charles Rainwater reported that Eunice Coby Scott passed away yesterday.  Funeral arrangements will be available at The Albertville Memorial Funeral Home.

 

9/29/2002 – More Sad News

Charles Rainwater reported that Melba Striplin McClendon passed away today.  No details were known about funeral arrangements.

 

Shirley Hughes Burnell has requested that we remove her from our rolls, since she was in the Class of ’53 for only a short time.

 

7/21/2002 – Sad News

Charles Rainwater reported that Germaine (Whitten) Joyner passed away today.

5/20/2002 – Rooms Reserved

Charles Rainwater has reserved a block of 25 rooms at the Jameson Inn in Albertville.  The rate is $58 per night.  This reservation will be in effect until May 1, 2003.  After that date, reservations must be made on an “as available” basis.

 

5/14/2002 – Committee Meeting Report.

The committee meeting on May 9th was very successful.  The following information was presented:

1.     The First Baptist Church has been chosen for a Friday night, May 16, 2003 registration and Saturday night banquet.  The total cost for the facility is $100.  Finger foods on Friday night and the banquet on Saturday night will be catered, buffet style, with chicken, roast beef, two sides, salad, dessert, coffee and tea.  The cost will be $13.95 plus tax.

 

2.     A golf tournament is being planned for Saturday.  Time and place to be determined later.

 

3.     Suggested motels include The Jamison Inn in Albertville.  The rooms are real nice.  All rooms are $58.00.  Available rooms include 5 premium rooms (king size bed, refrigerator, microwave, recliner).  Two king size rooms with the same furnishings, except the recliner.  Up to 15 regular king size rooms and up to 20 regular double bed rooms.  Covenant Cove in Guntersville (formerly Val-Monte).  Rooms are real nice also.  Mountain view rooms go for $65.00 and lake view rooms are $75.  Telephone and Fax numbers for the above facilities are provided for your information:  The Jamison Inn – (256)891-2600, FAX (256)891-2674.  Covenant Cove – (256)582-1000, FAX (256)582-1385.

 

4.     October was established as the deadline for submitting pictures and biographical sketches for the “Keepsake” booklet.  In order to proceed with this project, we must have at least half of the surviving class members participate.

 

Attendees were: Charles & Betty Rainwater, Sarah Land, Gail Cowan, Doris Moore, Yvolene Thrash, Mildred Brooks, Billy Jack Minor, Marjorie Holland, Verbon Bell, Jean York, Ann Jenkins, Tommie Frank Townsen, Vida Tabor (and her son), and John D. Bowling.

 

 

4/24/2002 – Planning Meeting

Another planning meeting has been scheduled for May 9th, 12:00 noon at the Catfish Cabin in Albertville.  Any class member who wants to attend is invited.  Just let us know if you plan to attend.

 

11/17/2001 - Good News

Thanks to the efforts of Doris Armstrong Moore, the last missing classmate, Betty McClain, has been located. All classmates are now located.

REUNION PLANNING MEETING

The planning meeting in Albertville on October 10, 2001 was a great success. We had 23 people in attendance and everyone seemed to enjoy renewing acquaintances from long ago. Attendees included (in no particular order):

DATES FOR REUNION SELECTED

May 16 - 18, 2003 was selected as the date(s) for the reunion. A program committee will develop a program and list of activities within the next six months. The discussion centered on a banquet, perhaps on Friday night, and a church service on Sunday.

 

KEEPSAKE BOOKLET

A sample of the keepsake booklet was circulated and left with the committee to obtain estimates on printing costs. Everyone was encouraged to get their information in for the booklet together with a recent picture.
