Joseph C. Schallan (1881-1931) and Mary Louise (Wagner)
Schallan (1883-1978). Married in 1907, Joe and Mary Louise
first resided in Yankton, South Dakota, before settling in Havelock, in
Pocahontas County, Iowa, in 1911. They were using "Schallan" instead
of "Schallau" by the 1920s, for reasons now unknown to the members
of their branch. Mary Louise Wagner was raised on a farm near Newhall,
in Benton County, Iowa. Joe and Mary Louise had nine children -- Chester
William (1909-1983), Ralph James (1910-1919), Rosalia (1911-1962),
Viola (1913-1929), Lillian (1914-present), Daisy Mae (1916-1923),
Opaline (1920-1991), Eugene (1924-1996), and Donald (1925-1925).
