General Meade Society of PhiladelphiaThe General Meade Society of Philadelphia is a nonprofit organization
dedicated to promoting the memory of Major General George Gordon Meade,
commander of the Army Since its inception, the General Meade Society has undertaken a number of worthwhile activities in support of its mission to promote the distinguished general. Among these are tours of Meade-related sites in Philadelphia, sponsorship of an address by noted Civil War historian Dr. Richard Sauers, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Meade equestrian statue on Cemetery Hill at Gettysburg, and an annual birthday commemoration at his gravesite in Philadelphia's historic Laurel Hill Cemetery. The General Meade Society is a proactive organization that meets regularly to discuss the general's role in the Civil War and other related topics. The society's meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m. Membership in the Meade Society is open to all who value patriotism and are devoted to history. Dues are $10.00 per year for individuals, $20.00 for families, and $5.00 for students. Membership includes a bi-monthly newsletter (The Dispatch) and invitations to all society events.
