This 1939 Cracker Jack Dancing Doll finger toy, a Dutch girl just waiting to tiptoe through the tulips, is approximately 2 11/16" x 3" and printed on card stock. As illustrated on the upper right corner of the prize, the two pre-cut holes are to be pushed out and fingers inserted to become the girl's dancing legs.
The Dancing Doll is one of a series of four finger prizes created by C. Carey Cloud. The others in the series are called Finger Faces. Two of them, a clown and a court jester, have circles to be punched out so that a finger can be inserted as a nose. The other one in the series is an elephant, and a finger stuck through the card serves as the elephant's trunk. These finger prizes are not dated, and nothing is printed on the back.
There are two versions of the finger prizes. One set has "Cloudcrest Creations Chicago" in the lower left corner, while another set has nothing printed there, like the Dancing Doll shown above. Of the ones that are not marked, some are pre-cut for removing the border around the face or doll, and some are not.
In Cracker Jack documents, this prize series comes first in a list of all Cloudcrest Studio/Creations Cracker Jack prizes arranged in series number order, and a date of 1939 is given for the series. But according to Cloud's autobiography (Cloud Nine), the first prizes he created for Cracker Jack were 1937 nodding head animals.
