Jacob GREIB came to this country from Germany and did very well. So well that he had comfortable inheritance for each of his ten children. From the original name GREIB, several other forms of the name developed. Several of his sons used the form GRIBE, thus using the phonetic form of the name. Why the name finally changed its initial letter making it CRIPE is anyone's guess, but that is still the most frequently used form of the name is this country. Because Jacob and his children followed the Biblical instructions to go forth and multiply so well (a family of less than eight children was unusual, especially in my direct line) for this family I will simply trace the direct line placing my connection at the end of each generation.
