It is helpful to me in searching for missing episodes and upgrading the ones I have. There is a brief introduction to the story. I have not given away the plot or conclusions. It may be helpful to somebody else in identifying episodes. He weighed in at over 270 pounds, while the Fat Man's weight varied between 237-247#. Smart brought a great radio voice and acting skills to the part. Some of the best parts of the shows are the philosophical bits he does to lead into the show, and the one he does after the show to preview next weeks episode. Brad is at Grand Central Station to put his mother on a train. He bumps into a woman who immediately uses him to evade someone and then disappears. She leaves her bag, which draws Runyon onto the train, then off and into an adventure with an actress named Kathy Evans, a wealthy man and a string of pearls. Directed by Robert Sloan. After dinner, she is looking out the window and sees a beautiful redhead being stabbed across the way. Brad and Eugenia go to investigate and find an old lady and a large ball of string instead of a body. The next day, a new assignment for Brad brings him back to the building where Eugenia saw the murder. Next week's" show is announced as "Murder Goes Sightseeing". She pretends to know him but it is a ruse to fool a man that is following her. She snubs him on the plane, but pulls her act again when they land because her stalker re-appears. Now Melvin wants money, which Harriet is inclined to give him. Now she's having second thoughts and hires Runyon to get the husbands sorted out. Herb May Announcer. Brad is resting from a brace of pork chops, when the phone rings. The caller wants him to prove that he really did kill somebody. He's a novelist with a strange story to spin. There is a pretty girl, a big red rooster, and a trash can, and one thing leads to another and then to murder. Runyon was in Washington on business, and decide to drive a little farther to see a friend in Maryland. His car dies. A stranger offers him a lift. Johnny O'Reilly is scarred from the war and has a grudge. After seven years in the hospital he wants to deal with a major who got his medal. Brad decides to stop him from making a mistake. Scott Smart. The stories still feature the detective Brad Runyon, AKA The Fat Man, and are centered in New York City. In the US series, the Fat Man's weight varies, but in the Australian version he stays at a solid 239 pounds. The Australian episodes ended with Runyon intoning: "It seems I spend my life getting into trouble and getting out. Brad Runyon knew Jimmy in the Army, so he agrees to help. The investigation takes them to some strange doctors and a graveyard where they find the dead. Brad follows the trail from a reporter to a Peacock farm. Brad finds a corpse and a doctor with a strange story about shooting a stranger. But who ordered the undertaker? AU17 - Murder Seeks A Lost Penny 27min52sec - 32kbps - 6.5mb - Weight 239# Runyon takes his mother to the drug store for a soda. A man walks in and announces a holdup. He wants no bills, only pennies! This sets off a chain of events with Brad chasing pennies for dollars. The dealer wants Brad to purchase "The Laughing Lotus", a black box at an auction. Of course, there is competition for the box and there is also murder. She is concerned about her nephew, Byran, but can't go to the police. He has a loaded pistol - but why? AU23 - Murder Rides A Wheelchair 25min36sec - 32kbps - 6.0mb - Weight 239# Myron Van Horn is confined to a wheel chair. He hires Runyon to resolve a case of blackmail involving his daughter, Laura. On his way out, he catches a young lady rushing out of the building. She's rushing away from a dead man. She claims was shot. She's Sybil, the dead guy is a lawyer, he was stabbed not shot, and Brad is hooked. AU25 - Murder For Sale - 49-07-22(?) 26min16sec - 32kbps - 6.2mb - Weight 239# Runyon is on his way to call on Oliver Winkler. He overhears an argument, sees an armed man, but finds Mr. Winkler safe and very interesting. A voice like the purr of a cat describes a threat on his life. AU26- Murder By Mail 26min13sec - 32kbps - 6.1mb - Weight 239# She was a big woman. Brad decided she looked like a capable, single woman from a farm in the middle West. She admitted that she had never hired a detective and didn't have much money. But, she needed to find her brother Bob. He had moved from Iowa to get married to Irma Lewis. It was matrimony arranged by a service and through the mail. Her letters weren't answered but they weren't returned either. AU29 - Murder Shows An Unfamiliar Face 26min19sec - 24kbps - 4.6mb - Weight ???# Returning from a boat club banquet, late at night his headlights pick up a woman in the road waving for a ride. When she finds out that Runyon is a private investigator, she wants his help to find her father. He offers to call the police for her, but doesn't want the case. After parking her with his friend, Kathy, his next stop is the morgue. The dead man has a familiar name, but how is he? Matching the people, the bodies and the names becomes a challenge for Brad. AU30 - Murder Makes The King's Coffin 26min50sec - 32kbps - 6.3mb - Weight 239# Eight O'clock and Brad is ready to quit for the evening. A phone call from Mrs. Thomas King changes his plans. A man is watching the house, but her husband won't let her call the police. Is it a coincidence that the police are also interested in the man that is watching the Kings? Then a reporter joins in to cover a fire at the same address. But who is in the coffin? The call From Annabelle Gunston brought Runyon three hours out of the comfortable city. She wants Brad to find proof of her father's murder. She thinks his heart attack was not a natural occurrence. The guy who barged into his office with a gun got Brad's attention and demanded he drop the Robin case. Of course, when Mr. Robin called to hire Brad there was no question in Brad's mind. A hood is blackmailing Mr. Robin - or he'll marry Robin's daughter! Complete. AU36 - Murder Makes Music 26min32sec - 32kbps - 6.2mb - Weight 239# A call from Jay Sherman made Runyon think back to 1929 when Sherman made his reputation and a fortune as "The Boy Wonder". Is Sherman's wife playing around with a musician? While "The Moonlight Sonata" plays, a shot rings out and Brad and his new client find a murdered musician. Usually it's just curiosity, but this time it might be a case with a very nice reward. A sweet little old lady wants to pay $5,000 for the name of a murderer. She feels her son was wrongly convicted of murder. She struggled for nine years to save the money that might free her son. AU38 - Murder Meets an Uncertain Lady 26min30sec - 32kbps - 6.3mb - Weight 239# Runyon's out on a date with Kathy. A note from a pretty redhead at another table invites him to dance. He tells Kathy that she must be in distress. She starts to hire him, then changes her mind, then agrees to meet with Brad, then changes her mind. Brad decides that her husband is in danger and acts on his own. It gets more confusing when her "husband" denies that he is married. AU 39 - Murder Shows A Card 26min20sec - 32kbps - 6.2mb - Weight 239# This episode begins at the front door of the Cartright mansion. The man who answered the door looked like an English Butler, but didn't sound like one. He advises Brad to "butt out"; of course, Brad ignores him. A tale out of the old West drws Brad in. Old Crooked Nose left an Ace of Spades for Mrs Cartright, and that can't be good news. AU 40 - Murder Makes A Payoff 26min08sec - 32kbps - 6.1mb - Weight 239# It's a brisk clear morning and Runyon goes to the zoo to see an old friend, Henry the lion. When he gets back to the office he gets a call to meet a potential client. The guy is jumpy. A note threatens his wife unless he pays. He wants to pay and needs Runyon to watch his back. She gives him an address. When he gets to her penthouse apartment she wants him to go away. Brad spots a corpse in the bedroom and the chase is on.
