Who is John Fistere?

On the off chance you are interested in who I am, read on.

My Background

I was born in Greenwich Village, New York City, in 1935.  It was an art center then,
and art has been a part of my life, more or less, ever since.   My schooling was at P.S. 99 in Kew Gardens, Forest Hills High School, Yale University (BE in Mechanical Engineering),
The American University of Beirut, Lebanon (Junior year),
and the University of Pittsburgh (graduate studies).

I worked for 18 years at the Westinghouse Electric Corporation (which became CBS of all things, and to top it off, became Viacom), and then at Solar Turbines Incorporated for 23 years.  At both companies, my field was the development of new control systems for turbomachinery (steam and gas turbines), and during my career we went from hydraulic, to electrical to computer controls.  It was a blast the whole time.   I was sent 'round the world twice to explain to customers what the heck we were doing.

I retired in 1997, and as they say, I am busier than ever.  In August of 1999 I accepted a part-time position as Executive Director of the Prostate Cancer Research and Education Foundation. I retired from that in 2005.

I am active in La Mesa Rotary, the San Diego Festival Chorus, and the KPBS Radio Reading Service. In 2007, I bought my first guitar, I'm taking lessons, I'm making progress, and having fun. Slo-Jam is where I play with others once a month. My blog is at http://jfistere.wordpress.com.

I have two wonderful daughters, Jennifer and Jessica, with my first wife, Jane.  They have become world travelers, for work and pleasure.  Jennifer was an Associate Producer of HBO's The Sopranos.  Jessica is in software systems development and support, and her husband, Jamie Sweeney, her husband since September 1, 2002, is in network administration.  I am very proud of my daughters, and I really like Jamie.

I've been married to Teresa since June 23, 1991, and we live in the home of our dreams, that is, as soon as we get a few things fixed up.  We love to travel, and took a sailing cruise from Greece to Sicily, and up the west coast of Italy in 1998.  We sailed up the Rhone River in France, and drove through Brittany and Normandy 1999. We'll be going on our second choral singing tour in late June. We're scheduled for the Vatican, and we'll wind up in Amaseno.
