Who Cooked That Up?

by J.J. Schnebel

Did you ever find yourself stirring some ingredients in a mixing bowl, or tossing something into a frying pan and wonder who in the world first put these things together or how we came to know about it?

Somewhere in the distant beyond someone figured out how to bake bread or cook an egg, but who that was is lost to us forever.  Nevertheless, there are certain foods whose origins can be traced because someone still remembers when they were first created.

Here is an effort to give credit where credit is due.   In the frame to the left, you will find an ever-growing list of foods we have come to enjoy and the stories behind them, with the original recipe, wherever possible. If you scroll down the list to find a recipe that interests you, click on it and take the highlighted links to other Web pages on the subject.  You can always return here by clicking on the "Back" button.

If you heard it differently or have a question to ask, we'd be happy to hear from you.
