CHAPTER ELEVEN: Rover Gets Loose

Taking her arm, Tim walked Ma out of the dining room. He thought he might walk her down to the lakeside, but Ma was tired and chose instead to walk over to one of the gazebos on the lawn. Realizing that many visitors liked to have a private place to talk with their relatives, the Home had built several small structures, scattered over the lawn, where some measure of privacy could be attained.

The building of the gazebos had given the boys at the trade school a chance to create some unusual things in Advanced Shop. At first Tim steered Ma toward one that was built to look like a Victorian summer cottage, but that was already occupied. He knew she didn't like the one modeled after a South Seas hut -- "too much bamboo; reminds me of snakes," she always said, so he took the path toward the one modeled after a Japanese temple.

As they approached, however, they noticed that one of the geese had entered the pagoda, and it was being pursued by Johnny Larsen's dog, which had gotten loose and was tearing across the lawn, in pursuit of the goose. A commotion followed. Johnny and Paul Larsen were running after the dog, and Mabel Larsen was running after her husband and son, while Gramma Larsen, suddenly deprived of the arm she was leaning on, fell over onto the lawn.

One of the nurses ran to Gramma's side and helped her to a bench, feeling for any broken bones or strained muscles. Fortunately, Gramma was okay. And Johnny and Paul had hold of their dog, while Mabel shooed the goose.

Everything had calmed down by the time Reverend Phillips came out of his office and approached Tim and Ma.

"What's going on here?," the Reverend asked, "A loose goose? A tempest in a teacup?"

"No sir," Tim replied, "_   _  _  _,   _    _  _  _  _    _  _    _    _  _  _  _  _  _."
