Ten women had already entered Bob Wilson's office at the packing plant. It was Friday, and none of them had received their pay envelopes. In fact, as they waited for Bob to start the meeting, they couldn't help but notice the stack of envelopes on Bob's desk. Could they see a shade of pink through the white of the envelope? They couldn't help but wonder. It was that time of year.
Three more women entered the office, including Edna, who came in with Eva. They sat on the window sill, as all the other seats were occupied, and waited for Bob to speak.
Suddenly the door burst open and Bob's assistant entered, carrying two large pans, used for storing potatoes.
"What do you want me to do with these?," he asked Bob, "We haven't shipped potatoes in years."
"Never mind that, Otis. We've got a meeting going on here, and you're late," Bob replied.
"Oh, yeah," Otis said, and some of the women giggled. They knew that Otis never liked to consider himself on a par with the women in his division, and that he probably wanted to skip the meeting and talk with Bob privately later.
"Sit down, Otis, we're about to start," Bob said, as he walked around his desk to open the window behind Edna.
"There's no place to sit," Otis protested.
Walking over to Otis, Bob upturned one of
the pans Otis had set down in the center of the room and commanded,
"_ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _, _
_ _ _."
