Please note: This site is set up to a tribute to Grandmaster Rogers, the American Hapkido Academy, and Hapkido as a martial art / science. If you are interested in hapkido classes, please go to the website for the Progressive Martial Arts Training Center for more information.
The American Hapkido Academy (A.H.A.), was founded by 9th Degree Black Belt, Grandmaster Daniel T. Rogers (7/8/1958 - 11/24/01) and is the headquarters of the World United Hapkido Association (W.U.H.A.). The style of hapkido that we practice is Chun-Ki Hapkido which was taught to Grandmaster Rogers by Grandmaster Choi, Han Young. Please visit our association site via the link to the left, and make sure to read the biography of our founder and friend Grandmaster Rogers, who will be always in our hearts. The AHA strives to teach a balance of various techniques including "Korean Style Kicking", joint locks, pressure points, throws, grappling / submission holds, various hand strikes, weapons, and "Ki", or internal energy development and manipulation. Students are taught to apply the principles of non-resistance, circular motion, and the water principle to all techniques. These three basic skills combined lead to "Yu Won Wha", or soft circular harmony. All these techniques and their basic understanding are necessary to reach 1st degree black belt level, which usually takes a minimum of four years. To truly master and understand these techniques, however, takes a lifetime. Our core belt techniques are listed to the left under the "Belt Techniques" link. Various seminars are often available to AHA practitioners to introduce other styles and techniques to expand their minds and abilities, as well as, an appreciation for other forms of the martial sciences. Our goal is to unify an individual's mind, body, and spirit through their development and training in the marital arts. Our seven basic philosophies are as follows: (In) patience, (Uie) righteousness, (Yea) courtesy, (Ji) wisdom, (Sin) faith, (Um) seriousness, and (Yong) bravery. Every student at the AHA must adhere to these philosophies in order to advance in rank and ability. Also, they must know and actively practice the beliefs outlined in the student creed which is as follows: I will develop myself in a positive manner, avoiding all things that will reduce my mental and physical growth or health. I will develop self discipline, in order to bring out the best in others, as well as myself. I will ALWAYS used what I have learned constructively and defensively, to help my fellow man and myself, never being abusive or offensive. School Motto: Straight Mind, Straight Body, Total Concentration. Please visit all the links to the left to see some our techniques and to learn more about the art of hapkido. Always remember in everything you do,
Thank you for taking the time to visit this site.
