at the home of Jerry & Colleen Longstrom, In Peoria Arizona.

Jeannette Nord from Phoenix Arizona
  (and her daughter)
Sigrid Nord-Champie from Phoenix Arizona

Roger Lindholm from Scottsdale Arizona
  (and his cousin)
Diane Monk from Phoenix Arizona

Roy Pederson from Scottsdale Arizona

Roger Ramirez from San Jose California
Ted Rocewicky

Bill & Kris Johnson from Williston Ohio

The group discussed many things.

We talked about the ways to do research in Sweden, such as using Rötter and Disbyt. We discussed doing research in the USA, such as using the
Social Security index and the census.
There was talk about visiting Sweden and what to do there when there, and should a person rent a car or take the bus and trains.
Genealogy programs were discussed and Bill Johnson had his computer along to show the TMG program he uses. Jerry has used many and is now using Family Tree Maker, but going to try TMG.

Comments from some that attended

Jerry,
Thanks for having us over for the Arizona luncheon. It was great meeting all
those "Swedes".  I was sure excited about talking about geneology.  Mostly I
came away with a feeling of enthusiasm about research,
Thanks Jeannette Nord.

Hello Jerry:
The meeting was my first and I found it very interesting and
informative.  Mainly I now have a more realistic idea of what's involved
in genealogical research.  I also obtained some web site information
that will help me in getting my efforts organized and "netted."

The areas of Sweden and Norway that I'm interested in (3 Swedish
grandparents and one Norwegian) are Bergen, in Norway,  where my farfar
(Rasmus Rasmussen ((Kjelstad is also a family name we are given.
Apparently grandpa changed is name at least once - Rasmussen to Pederson
and maybe twice - Kjelstad to Rasmussen))) was from.  And in Sweden,
Sundsvall and Medelpad generally, as well as areas around Gallavare
where my morfar's line was (name Thingvall, Tingwall and Tingvall).  I
found grandpa Thingvall's birth record in the archive in Sundsvall when
we visited there last Sept.-Oct.   Vastervik and Kalmar where my
mormor's family came from (here in the states Ogren, there something
like Ahgren with an umlaut over the "A" I think).  My farmor is the most
elusive.  Her maiden name was Melquist and apparently they hailed from
somewhere in the vicinity near but north of Jonkoping.
Thanks, Roy.

Jerry:
It was very nice of you and Colleen  to use your home for the Smultron
meeting. I don't believe a restaurant would tolerate a bunch of people hanging
around that long and unless the meeting were in a private room the other
patrons would not enjoy the noise.
I think we should have some sort of agenda. Perhaps each one introducing
them self and then how they got into this and where they are.
I live in a mobile home park and we have "pot luck" dinners. Perhaps this
idea could be used to defray the expense.
My self--I am interested in Jämtland and Väsmanland. I have had a great
deal of luck in Jämtland which is a story in itself. I have about 14,000
persons in my data base ,about 9,000 are Swedish. I want to put two
genealogies on the web but I don't know how. I have a cousin in Sweden
who will probably put one of these up as we have mutual ancestors.
I look forward to meeting again.         Earl Alexanderson

Hi Jerry,

Thanks so much for you and your wife hosting the Smultron Luncheon. It was
an intimate get-together where it was possible to have a good exchange of
ideas. I learned a few things and was encouraged to explore some sources
where I had not ventured before (e.g. DISBYT).
My areas of interest are the parishes of Undersåker, Ottsjö, Åre, and Mörsil
in Jämtlands Lan.
Thanks, Ken Kranhold & Ellen von Brentano

Jerry
Thanks, as I said in a previous e-mail. The luncheon was a respite from my every day routine and I was able to get a map of the area I am interested in. Which now includes Berga and the town of Lindbol in Västra Vingåker.
It was interesting to meet Roger Ramirez of Tingvall fame. Never thought I would meet a person with Swedish roots that is also part Phillipino.

The discussion has enforced my will to make a trip to Sweden in the future,
Jeannette, if you can give me some info on what you are looking for in Chicago I will surely put it there for others to see.  Maybe someone can help you in Chicago with your research.  There is a lady on the list from there that is very helpful.....I think her name is Sharon Linder. I will find her e-mail address and send it to you

Jerry, the majority of my family is from Chicago as I am, and I have relied on three people for research, They have all been very good at retrieving information. I may be able to help Jeanette if I knew the names she is seeking and the time frames. I will receive in the next couple of days the printout from Graceland with many of my family names on the list.
Roger Lindholm.  (going to Sweden next summer)
