The Modern Pop Machine FAQ v0.1
DIP SWITCH SETTINGS PAGE

I had hoped to put something more official looking here, but I never got around to it. Someone named Stephanie called me to task on this, so I took some pictures of my pop machine and sent her an email. Here's the contents of what I sent her. (Thanks, Stephanie, for helping me get around to this!)

LEGAL: NO WARRANTY EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. SHOULD THIS DOCUMENT PROVE FAULTY, INNACURATE, INCOMPLETE, OR OTHERWISE UNACCEPTABLE, THE ENTIRE RISK OF USE IS WITH YOU.

Picture #1 - You're looking at the inside of the front door. To the left of the picture are the selection buttons on my particular machine. (It is a little old. You can tell this because it has some of the old style big buttons.) The panel that has the change mechanism has been swung away from the front door, and you can see it pretty clearly. This is a standard Mars changer.

Picture #2 - I don't know if you're going to have this cover over the changer, but if you do, you'll need to unhinge it and swing it out from over the coin changer. In my case, I had to lift the side up just a little bit to unhook it off of a screw, then it just swung over to the left.

Picture #3 - This is the most important part, and a little tough to explain. I wish I had a paint program I understood better so I could draw arrows. Basically, with your left hand, put your finger on that upper left corner, and using your right hand, put another finger on the upper right corner. Move your hands down about a half of an inch. You should hit that triangular lever that is hanging out. You want to kind of push down on both of those at the same time to unhinge the mechanism. Then, with one of your free fingers, you'll want to pull the entire black piece towards you. You'll see which way you're supposed pull it on the next picture.

Picture #4 - You'll see that the entire mechanism just folded out towards you (at the bottom of the picture you can just make out the coin slot and coin return mechanism). See those three white switches in the lower left hand area? You usually don't want to mess with those. (They can control such things as if it accepts dollar coins or Canadian currency.) You're looking for the white switches in the upper right.

Picture #5 - These are the switches, and you can just make out the instructions below them. They control the value of a pop. Up is "ON", and down is "OFF". Switch 1 is the leftmost switch. Switch 2 is just to the right of Switch 1, and so on.

Here is a table to show you the switches and how much they're worth...

Switch Cost
-------- -------
Switch 1 5 cents
Switch 2 10 cents
Switch 3 20 cents
Switch 4 40 cents
Switch 5 80 cents
Switch 6 $1.60
Switch 7 $3.20
How do you figure out which switches to turn on? You figure out the right combination of switches to produce the amount you want. Examples:
Pop Price Switches ON
---------- ------------
FREE THIS IS NOT A VALID SELECTION!
10 cents 2
25 cents 1 and 3
50 cents 2 and 4
55 cents 1 and 2 and 4
$1.00 3 and 5
$1.50 2 and 3 and 4 and 5

This doesn't cover it? Let me know. And take some pictures, if you can. I'll do what I can to help you out. (Although I reserve the right to use the pictures to help instruct others! Its only fair.)
