Math classes/study groups at Mt. Everest provide supplemental support to the learning that students do on their own at home (or with parents' help, for 7th and 8th graders). 

• The classes/study groups are not intended to be students' main form of instruction.  Students' own reading and studying the textbook and solution manual is their main form of instruction.
• For 7th and 8th graders, their parents are their main instructors, with support from the school such as these study groups, math help from the math teacher and tutors, and materials such as the pacing guide, practice tests (or study guides) and various handouts.  
• During the classes, the math teacher will explain and show examples of selected concepts and procedures from the monthly work.  Students who attend the classes will be expected to work on problems during the class to practice the chosen concepts and procedures. 
  
• Not all of the month's concepts and procedures will be taught during the classes.  The teacher will present as much as time allows, but will NOT be covering all the material of the month.  Students are expected to carefully study all concepts and procedures while at home on their own or with help from parents or others as applicable.
• Some math classes are NOT held during the monthly math test week, to allow students more opportunity to study and practice without the distraction of learning new material for the next month.

IMPORTANT NOTE: During testing week, Pre-Algebra and Algebra study groups change into testing times only. No instruction or practice will occur in classes during that week. Students do not have to take the test during the class time; they can take their test during any of the scheduled testing times. Intermediate Algebra study group changes to 40 minutes of review (10:35 to 11:15), followed by open testing for the rest of that day.  The tutoring schedule also changes during math test week; see below.
