Professional Focus ...

My current professional focus is on implementation of school reform with an emphasis on the impact of technology on low-performing schools. I currently spend my days as a Technology and Categorical Coordinator at Sweetwater High School in National City, an eight-square-mile community, historically one of the lowest economic areas in the state. I continue to develop and implement ways for California low-performing schools to break through the educational and social barriers to motivate those students who have developed a pattern of failure and prepare them for college. This includes helping teachers champion ways to use technology as a tool to meet the overwhelming challenge of teaching educational standards to students with minimal language skills. This is my 7th year of teaching Ed. Tech 470, a valuable opportunity to ensure new teachers have tools they need to maximize learning for the 21st Century generation.

Personal Focus ...

My husband and I are fortunate to have two incredible daughters. The youngest has completed law school and works for the county probation department. The eldest is in her 7th year coordinating the categorical programs at a local high school. Both graduated from UCSD and both grew up raising and showing morgan horses. Most of my energy and time for fifteen years was dedicated to them and their horse shows. Now I am able to pursue my other interests including my 2 new grandsons, traveling, boating, reading, scrapbooking, jazzercise and what else, technology!

Background...

A California native, much of my life was spent in Northern California. After my degree at University of California Irvine, I moved to San Diego where the weather is amazing and the traffic is tolerable. I spent 20 years working at Southwest Junior High, just a stone's throw from the Mexican Border, but moved to high school in 1999. Among various educational proficiencies, I earned a Master's in Educational Technology in 1995 and an Adminstrative Services Credential in 2002.
