A beautiful Sunday Morning
Sunrise over the lake.
I woke up before first light and sat by the fire reading my novel, The Fixer. Such a powerful book,
it was hard to put down.
First light brought fog over the lake. There were alot of birds
around, including a Great Blue Heron that flew over my campsite. A quiet start to the day.
The road through the back of the park.
I saw a family of deer as I rolled down this road, the buck flew across the road just in front of me and hopped the
fence, the others hid in the brush until I passed on.
The low angle of the sun due to the season made for a great start as I
headed back out on the roads towards home.
The road west of Latham. This area is great to ride in,
with lots of rolling hills and little traffic. Its nice to be starting out here this early in the morning.
Cool stone fence along the road by the
Price Ranch, a really handsome place.
Mile after mile of riding. This day was rocking!
Bicycle camping is so restorative, the quiet morning, beautiful countryside, and great excercise.
I was flying along at about 18 mph along this stretch. For the whole weekend I averaged 15 mph, but
I think my Sunday miles, once I got off the gravel and back on blacktop, were up in the high teens
for an average - on the flats I'd typically see 19-22 mph rolling.
Kansas has a reputation of being flat and boring.
This ride proves otherwise, the varied terrain offered some fine cycling, and a wonderful
taste of autumn colors. Plus it gave me the opportunity to get out and be on my own, to think, to feel.
And so I ride . . .
