Vancouver Island, Canada June 1999 |

| This was a nice two-week jaunt to an area we had not toured before. We rented a car at the Seattle airport and off we went. We stayed at B&B's throughout the journey. First stop was Anacortes just for the night and then on to San Juan Island for four nights at the Hillside House.
Our goal was to see Orca, and we saw them four out of the five days on the island. Two of the days we say the whales from shore and two days we went out on small boats. |

| The first day we went to Lime Kiln State Park and watched from shore as a few of these much-loved creatures swam by. | |||||||||||

| The second day we went on a cruise on the Bon Accord, a small boat that only held eight people. This harbor seal was at the dock begging for food from the seafood market out on the pier. As the butchers carved up some fillets, this little guy would splash to water trying to get their attention. He was rewarded for his efforts, even though this type of behavior is discouraged. | |||||||||||

| We traveled into Canadian waters to see the Orca, but we did get a pretty good view. | |||||||||||

We then took a ferry over to Vancouver Island. We stayed at a lovely hotel, called The Aerie. It was high on a hill overlooking a fjord area north of Victoria. A lovely place with delicious food.
We took an afternoon tour of Butchart Gardens. A great place to visit. We traveled on to Salt Spring Island for a stay at the Hastings House. An old English lodge on the edge of a sleepy town. All very relaxing. |

| We finished our loop trip with a ferry from Victoria to Port Townsend and then back to Seattle.
