Abraham Spickerman was born 18 April
1720 to Sebastian Spickerman and Anna Elizabetha Laux.1 He
first married Barbara (surname unknown), and then married Elisabetha
Richter, daughter of Andreas Richter and Anna Elisabetha
Stahl.2 Like
Abraham, Elisabetha’s parents were Palatine emigrants. Andreas Richter
had emigrated with his sister and parents at the age of 14.3 Abraham spent his entire life at Livingston Manor as a farmer and
tenant.4 He joined the Linlithgo Reformed Church 6 June 1749 where his
brother Philip and sisters Anna Maria Catharina and Anna Maria had already
joined 18 May 1734.5 He and and his wife Elisabetha had all four children
christened at Linlithgo Reformed Church. As a church member, Abraham was
present as a sponsor at several christenings—Catalyntje Bresie
(25 October 1755)6, Elisabeth Haver (14 August
1768)7, Andreas
Jager (2 February 1776)8, and grandson Abraham Stever (28
November 1787).9 He is possibly the Abraham Spickerman who served with John, Philip and
Andreas Spickerman in the 10th Albany militia infantry during
the Revolutionary War. No other Abraham Spickermans have been found in any
records during that particular time period.10 Before Abraham’s death at the end of 1790, he made his appearance in
the very first U.S. federal census with one male over 16, one male under
16, one female, and one slave. He is buried in Livingston, Columbia
County, NY. It is unknown when Elisabetha died, but she is probably buried
with Abraham.11 They had four children: Johannes Spickerman was born 19 February 1758.12
He was baptized 26
February 1758 at Linlithgo Reformed Church of Livingston, Columbia County.
His sponsors were grandfather Sebastian Spickerman and aunt Lisabeth
Spickerman.13 Johannes married Maria "Polly" Laurentz 2
December 1783 at Linlithgo Reformed Church.14 He is probably the Johannis
Spikerman found in the 1790 census. If so, then his household consisted of
one male over 16, two males under 16 and one female.15 It is unknown when
Johannes and his wife died and are buried. Only one child has been discovered, but it is possible
they had more children: Elizabeth Spickerman was born 22 February 1760 and christened 2
March 1760 at Linlithgo Reformed Church. Her sponsors were grandparents
Andreas Richter and Anna Elisabetha Stahl.18 Elizabeth married George
Stever 14 November 1780 at Linlithgo Reformed Church.19 Elizabeth’s
aunt, Elisabetha, was George’s aunt by marriage to Johann Peter Stuber.20
Elizabeth died 15 September 1831 at the age of 71. George died a few years
later, 8 December 1837, at the age of 83. They are both buried at Union
Cemetery in Mellenville, New York.21 They had six children: Philip Spickerman was born 9 August 1762 and christened 12
September 1762 at Linlithgo Reformed Church. His sponsors were his uncle
Philippus Spickerman and wife Anna Barbara Kilmer.28 He served in the Levies
in 1782 under the command of Colonel Marinus Willet.29 He also served in the
10th Albany militia infantry with his father and brothers.
Philip married Anna Simon; however, no record of their marriage
exists. He died 1 May 1822 at the age of 59 and is buried in French
Cemetery in Victory, Cayuga County, NY.30 They had the following children: Andreas Spickerman, was born 13 November 1764. He was baptized 9
December 1764 at Linlithgo Reformed Church. His sponsors were Johannes
Petri and wife Lena Moesjer.34 Andreas married Sarah Gardner 14 July
1789 at Linlithgo Reformed Church.35 More will be discussed in the
Andreas
Spickerman family branch. |
