Button Camellias in Rhode Island Button

This Camellia sananqua "Snow Flurry" has proven quite hardy in Rhode Island. This plant flowers here from around Halloween through December. This maybe an incorrect name? (2/03)

Camellia sananqua "Snow Flurry"

Camellias are common in warm temperate climates and bloom generally while it is cool outside. Newer hybrids have allowed folks in cold climates to grow this shrub with some success outdoors. To the right is a small Camellia sananqua "Kumasaka" in Rhode Island. This tends to start blooming approx. 2 weeks later than the above plant.

Below, the Camellia pictured above from 12/00. It was transplanted that spring. They don't take much of a liking to being transplanted after 2-3 years in their location. Anyway it lives on. I think the "name" of this camellia may be incorrect. More research necessary.
