Cold hardy Sabal Palms
Here are pictures of smaller Sabal palms which may be of great interest to the hardy palm grower south of my location (Rhode Island). Here, at this point, only Sabal minor is hardy enough to live through our cold harsh winters with TLC. These other pictures of Sabal palms are of smaller growing palms/smaller specimens which are what folks in the cold north may expect (mail-order for example), and wind up growing as houseplants (for many years) until one feels the plant has enough size to plant out and face the elements. I feel that folks from New Jersey south to the Carolinas may enjoy seeing these photos here, (many name specific smaller Sabal palms), and also be more able (via photos) to distinguish the closely related types of these hardy palms while they are still young. There is, has, and will be differing names for these palms. These are merely photos of labeled small Sabal palms in central Florida. For folks who live outside of the native range of these palms (me and many others), I hope my pics will be helpful and enjoyable!!
