THOUGHTS

RACE     I don't understand. I skipped a class once to sit in on another class. The class I sat in on was African-American History. I have never seen a more powerful or passionate speaker—Leonard N Moore.  But here’s where I get confused: Dr. Moore said that segregation in Baton Rouge has been a complete failure. The schools are still segregated because all of the white kids go to private school so the public schools are all black, and therefore poor. But in the same class, Dr. Moore mentioned that blacks had to look out for one another and keep themselves separate from “white America,” but this sounds just like segregation. So does Dr. Moore want segregation? Does he want separate but equal? We’ve seen in the past that separate but equal doesn't work. And white people don’t want to be like black people, and black people don't want to be like whites, so where do we go? More as I get it…

Religion    It’s not my job. I don’t make the rules. But I do have a rule book. And I know what it says:

“No one comes to the Father except by me.” ~ Jesus

So what does that mean? Am I saying that only Christians can go to heaven? Here’s the thing: to say that God “does” something is limiting Him. And how can we limit something that is all powerful? Even saying God is all powerful is limiting Him. I assume that He has the ability to make Himself not all powerful. But does He? Who knows. All I know is that we have a rulebook here on Earth that was given to us by God. We don't make the decision as to whether or not someone’s soul goes to Heaven if he/she isn't a Christian; but it’s a safe bet that, if you believe in the infallibility of the Bible, Christians don’t go to Hell.

Our job is to love. And through that love nonbelievers come to know true life through Jesus Christ. So love on somebody in the name of the Lord, and let God do the judging. I hear he’s pretty good at it.

Cyber Identity   This may or may not be what I look like. How can you know for sure? That’s the thing about the internet: identity is pretty loosely defined. Take James Welles as an example. This is the guy who is supposed to be in charge of disciplining LSU students for improper behavior. I know. I had to go talk to the guy once (I threw a cup full of ice at a football game. I probably wouldn't have been in any trouble at all except that it hit the police officer who was staring straight at me square in the chest). He seemed to be a normal guy. But it turns out that his cyber-identity is completely different from his real life identity. The guy looks at kiddy porn!

I too have a cyber-identity. It’s pretty consistent from one site to the next (thefacebook, connnectU, AIM, etc.) and it’s not a whole lot different from my real life identity. But then again, there is no way of knowing if I have some fake name that I use in other cyber-circles. Maybe I’m a superstar online poker player. Maybe I pretend to be a 92 year old lady in chat rooms built for geriatrics. Or maybe I am only who I say I am. Funny thing is, you have no way of knowing.

I’ve waited hours for this. I’ve made myself so sick. I wish I’d stayed asleep today. I never thought this day would end. I never thought tonight could ever be this close to me.
