illustrations on each page. The book is available on web book vendor sites such as
Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com, and is aimed at middle schoolers (roughly 8-12 yrs
old). Rather than focusing only on scientific storm chasing, the book looks at storm
chasing as an activity that both amateurs and professionals do, including storm chasing
safety and behavior in the field, and how a storm chase is done from start to finish.
Cutting-edge information on tornadoes is also included, along with some basic storm
spotting tips for kids. A true-to-life tornado chase with Jon and his friends is
also detailed the way it would actually unfold in the field. This is the most current book available for kids on tornadoes and storm chasing, as Jon is an experienced storm chaser and research meteorologist whose specialty is tornado forecasting. It is an excellent source to answer kids’ questions about storms and storm chasing, and also a very up-to-date tool to feed middle schoolers’ interest in science, weather, and severe storms.
