This is a photo of Joseph's property taken in 2000. This is the fork of the East and West Hawksbill Creeks. They join at the lower left and continue to the left and north as the Hawksbill until they reach the Shenandoah. The source of the Hawksbill is far off in the distant mountains. The west branch runs along the bottom and to the right of the photo; the East branch comes in from the top of the picture (it bends around to the right of the picture out of sight). The Forrer home can just be seen on the far right. The mill is hidden behind the house. Joseph's log cabin would have been located between the Forrer home and the mill. The wheel at the mill was fed by a pond diverted from the East branch of the Hawksbill. The pond, man-made and now dry, sits behind the mill.
