The Ruffner Papers

This is a photograph of the sideboard which currently is in the restored Dr. Crick house which is next to the (relocated) Joseph Ruffner cabin. The caretakers felt this beautiful sideboard would be more secure in the Dr.'s home as the cabin is not really 'mouseproof' , whereas the Dr.'s house is a lovely and finished, secure structure. The story as per the caretaker was that Ann Ruffner's sideboard came down the river from Luray on a barge...I could just hear Ann saying to Joseph, "I'm not going to that wilderness and leaving all my beautiful furniture behind!" He said that supposedly there were many beautiful furnishings and china that came on that barge to the cabin...it must have been remarkable to other people in that wilderness!
