New House Construction

The forms were off the foundation on Monday (5/26) when Anna and I visited the site. Our friends Michele and Denise were walking by checking things out when I drove up. As much as the new house, we think we are really going to enjoy living in the same neighborhood with many friends from church. Every time we go over to the lot, people are out in their yards with their kids or stop by to say hello.

The picture to the left was taken in the model looking down the stairs into the boys' house.

Scans of floor plan: Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4
Pictures previoiusly posted: 5/12 | 5/15 | 5/21

Left: Denise and Michele standing at the front of the garage.
Right: Familiar angle shot to the west. Compare to pictures previously posted on 3/23, 5/12, and 5/22.

Left: Looking down the east side of the foundation, the left side if you are standing in front of the house. This will be the most severe slope for mowing.
Right: Looking down the west side of the foundation, the right side if you are standing in front of the house. The lot slopes to the south and west, so the slope isn't as bad on this side. The window in the large basement bedroom will be entirely above ground instead of having to be in a window well like the model was.

Left: A view along the front of the foundation looking east. Anna is enjoying the view from her stroller. The black stuff on the foundation is a sealant against moisture.
Right: A view along the back of the foundation looking west. I think we will have a small but flat back yard which connects to the farmer's huge lot.

Left: Picture of the model. Of the windows on the upper floor shown here, the small one on the left is in our bathroom and we are having glass block instead of a regular window. The ones on the corner will be in our bedroom. The one in the basement on the left is for the big bedroom and the one near the corner on the back is the smaller basement bedroom.
Right: This picture shows white cabinets which we will have in our kitchen. The way I understand it, the material is a pressed board with a baked on white enamel finish that is very hard and should be easy to wipe clean. Our kitchen is not layed out like this, it was taken in a model other than the one we chose to build. We haven't made any of the tough decisions yet about paint, countertops, carpet, light fixtures, etc. If you have any good advice for us, post it on MyFamily or send us an email. :)
