Billboard Guide to Tejano and Regional Mexican Music. Music Ref. ML102.T45 B87 1999.  A one-of-a-kind resource useful for finding biographical information on Tejano, Norteno, and Mariachi/ranchera musicians from the U.S. and Mexico. Includes birth and death dates and some discographical information.

Cuban Music from A to Z. Music Ref. ML106.C8 O7613 2004. Biographical dictionary on Cuban musicians.

Diccionario de la música española e hispanoamericana. Music Ref. ML101.S7 D53 1999. 10 vols. This dictionary is an invaluable guide to the music of Spain and Latin America, with subject and biographical entries covering a wide range of topics. Spanish text. Each vol. contains photos, illustrations, facsimile plates and music examples.

Encyclopedia of Latin American music in New York. Music Ref. ML102.P66 F54 1994. Includes over 2,000 biographical sketches of artists and other important figures of the music field, definitions of the most important musical terms and a brief history of Latin American music dating back to the early 1900's. Also included are an extensive discography, bibliography and an Honor Roll of lesser known artists.

Mexican/Mexican American Music

Accordion Dreams (PBS Program)  A useful resource for research on Texas conjunto music and the adoption of the accordion in the music of Texas and Northern Mexico.

Arhoolie Foundation's Strachwitz Collection of Mexican and Mexican American Recordings (UCLA)   a unique site featuring an index to and soundclips of early 20th century musical recordings by Mexican and Mexican American musicians. Currently the largest repository of Mexican and Mexican-American vernacular recordings in existence.

Border Cultures: Conjunto Music (University of Texas at Austin). " The music of the Mexico/United States border region is one of the most vibrant expressions of this unique culture. The links on this page provide starting points for learning about the conjunto musical style, its history, cultural significance, and artistry."

California Ethnic and Multicultural Archives Guide to the Lalo Guerrero Collection, 1939-2002. A finding aid for the materials on Lalo Guerrero owned by UC Santa Barbara.

Corridos Sin Fronteras.   A Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition and educational web site celebrating the narrative songs known as corridos.

Hispano Music and Culture of the Northern Rio Grande  (Library of Congress) Hispano Music and Culture of the Northern Rio Grande: The Juan B. Rael Collection is an online presentation of a multi-format ethnographic field collection documenting religious and secular music of Spanish-speaking residents of rural Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado. Part of the American Memory Project.

The Mexican Corrido. Nice  presentation of corridos that includes videos of corridos of the Mexican Revolution, vintage photos, song lyrics etc.

Southwest Folklore Collection : Music & Sound Recordings in the University of Arizona Library This is an alphabetical listing of mostly Mexican and Mexican American sound recordings housed in Special Collections at the University of Arizona Libraries. Includes numerous recordings by Lalo Guerrero, known as the Father of Chicano music.

The Mark Guerrero Homepage. Son of the great Lalo Guerrero, Mark Guerrero hails from Southern California, and has assembled a very useful web page for those interested in Chicano music in general, and in the music of his father in particular. Includes articles on Chicano music, and other useful resources.

Mariachi and Ranchera Music Resources  a site that includes books about mariachis, websites devoted to mariachi music, and a section on ranchera singers that includes biographical information, links to videos and photos.

MENC Mariachi Web Page A great resource for mariachi educators. It includes an archive of newsletters that should be of interest to both mariachi instructors and their students.

Cancioneros de Trovadores  This site contains song lyrics and discographical information  for contemporary Latin American folk singers and songwriters, including Silvio Rodriguez, Mercedes Sosa, Pablo Milanes and scores of others.

Cantos do Brasil - Brazilian art song Includes information on performers, concerts and repertoire, and provides links to other sources of Brazilian music.

The Diaz-Ayala Cuban and Latin American Popular Music Collection (Florida Interntional University). FIU's Green Library hosts the world's best Cuban music collection. The entire collection has approximately 100,000 items that span the history of popular Cuban and other Latin Music. Valued at nearly 1 million, the collection features 25,000 LPS; 14,500 78 rpms; 4,500 cassettes containing radio interviews with composers and musicians; 4,000 pieces of sheet music; 3,000 books; and thousands of CDs, photographs, videocassettes and paper files. Among the collection's rarest items are recordings made in pre-revolutionary Cuba.

Latin American Music Center (Indiana U.) The Latin American Music Center fosters the research and performance of Latin American art music. Founded in 1961 by distinguished composer and musicologist Juan Orrego-Salas, the Center continues to expand its important library, promotes exchanges between musicians and scholars from the United States and Latin America, and commissions, performs, and records exemplary music from the region.

 Latin Grammy Awards   This site provides information about the Grammy Foundation and the history of the Latin Grammys. Included is a searchable database for Latin Grammy Award winners.

Latin Music On-Line!  A bilingual Spanish-English internet website and online community that focuses on the US Hispanic market. The site is provider of unique, original information and interactive content related to Latin Music, entertainment, news and culture. This bilingual Latin music and entertainment site features original content, multimedia music reviews, concert info, contests, and "Internet Radio" style artist interviews in audio.

Latin Music USA!   Home of the PBS program, Latin Music USA, this site offers a great deal of information about the various genres that make up what is known as "Latin music".

Music of Puerto Rico   Dedicated to exploring the full breadth and depth of Puerto Rican music, from the soft rhythm of the Puerto Rican danza to the traditional folk music and plenas to hot salsa and the latest in reggaeton.
