Joyous Yoga

So, who IS Kara Bonnet-Johnson?

My name is Kara Bonnet-Johnson, and I grew up in Rockaway, NJ. I moved to AZ when I was 18 and graduated from the University of AZ, then spent a few years travelling and working in Europe. When I moved back to the US, I lived in Colorado and Oregon. I settled in Gilbert, AZ in 2001 with my beautiful family: my husband Edward, girls Madeline and Gwendolyn, and dog, Lucky.

Yoga has been and continues to be an incredible discovery for me. Through my practice, I found depression, asthma, poor diet and negative body image fading away and opening me to the beauty and connection I have with the world. This personal awakening led me to want to help others experience the sheer joy that is waiting for them, through the disciplined practice of yoga.

I began practicing yoga in 1997, but didn't practice it every day until I moved to Gilbert. I became certified as a hatha yoga teacher in 2003. I love teaching yoga, and also love continuing my training, mainly in the Ashtanga yoga tradition. I attend classes in different yoga disciplines also, especially Anusara. I love so many types of yoga, and recognize and honor that there are so many beautiful paths to the Union of mind, body and spirit.

In my classes I promote a relaxed, fun atmosphere where we still take our yoga seriously; just seriously fun. I want my students to feel confident, comfortable, and non competitive with themselves or others. I want them to be able to laugh, to enjoy the process of connection with the divine Self.

When I'm not teaching or practicing yoga, I enjoy creative writing, reading, progressive music, being in nature, and especially spending time travelling with or just hanging out with my friends and family.
