Google Tips:
Google is still the best and most comprehensive general purpose search tool on the internet. Here are some hints that will allow you to get the best results from your Google searches:
IMAGE Search  Use Google to search for photographs and images of all types. Great for finding a photo of a 1947 Ford, or pictures of celebrities or products by model number.
NEWS Search  Use Google to search for late breaking news, or news items on a particular person or subject. Great for when you "just missed" something on TV and want to see what you missed.
MAP Search  Use Google to search for maps for anywhere in the world. You can get street maps or even satellite image maps that show actual roads and structures.
Weather Information   -   Typing the word weather and a city or zip code such as weather phoenix or weather 85044 into Google will produce current weather conditions and a four-day forecast for that location.
Show Times   -   Typing showtimes (as one word) with a city and state, such as showtimes phoenix az will produce a link to local theatres and starting times for local movies.
Stock Quotes   -   Typing any stock ticker symbol, such as msft into Google will produce the current financials including a small chart for the stock.
Word Definitions   -   Using the define command, such as define:textured typed into Google will produce a definition for a word or phrase.
Phone Search   -   Typing a phone number in the format 202-456-1111 into Google will produce pages that contain that phone number. Typing a name and city such as George Bush, Washington D.C. will produce the phone number and address for that person, with a map to their location.
Area Code Lookup   -   If all you need is an area code lookup, simply typing 480 or any 3-digit area code into Google will show where that area code is located.
Q&A Search   -   Typing a simple question such as population of Seattle or birthplace of Bono into Google will produce a quick answer to fact-based questions, with a link to the source for more information.
Travel Information   -   Type an airports 3-letter code with the word airport such as phx airport into Google for delays and weather conditions at that airport. Type an airline and flight number, such as united 142 to find flight status for any flight.
Specific Web Site Search   -   Typing construction techniques site:www.birdhouses.com into Google will provide a search for those words on that specific site only.
Specific Document Types   -   Typing construction filetype:ppt into Google will produce only PowerPoint presentations related to construction.
Excluding Words   -   Typing construction techniques -plaster -cement into Google will produce pages that contain construction and techniques, but will exclude pages that also contain the words cement or plaster.
Include Similar Terms   -   Typing construction ~techniques into Google will produce pages that contain the word construction and the word techniques or any synonym or similar word.
Specific Phrase   -   Typing "construction techniques" into Google, with the quote marks included, will produce only pages that actually contain the exact phrase "construction techniques" rather than pages that just happen to contain both of those words.
This OR That   -   Typing construction OR techniques into Google will produce pages that contain either of those words rather than the normal result of pages containing both of them. Note the OR must be capitalized.
