Linux Introduction Page
The sessions are not currently being held during the summer.
A beginner book by Rickford Grant is now out: Ubuntu Linux for Non-Geeks, 3rd edition (June, 2008), No Starch Press, 360 p., currently $23.07 at Amazon. A good book for getting you using linux.
We try to provide help with the Ubuntu distrobution.
If you need really good security, we recomment Fedora with selinux enabled. For general web browsing and e-mail stuff, we prefer Ubuntu as the multimedia "fixes" are easier and there is excellent forum and Arizona User Group support.
The Rickford book includes a cd of the 8.04 version of the Ubuntu operating system, which has been quite stable.
When held, we will do a dual-boot installation, so windows is still available, and then show how to use some of the most frequently used software in the Ubuntu distribution.
