We are planning to do simultaneous dual-boot installations on a Windows 98 HD on the club box, and a Windows XP notebook. So, there should be something for everyone.
Things were straightforward until I got to the partition stage. You need to select the first option (Resize IDEI master (hda1)and use freed space)
You will get a default recommendation of XX.X gigabytes. The only thing that has worked for me is to press the enter key at this point. I'll try changing values and try it again.
The key is to get the XX.X gb value highlighted and press enter, when doing this with the Ubuntu tools.
An alternative is to use the latest version of the free software qparted to resize the hard drive. You can locate this by searching on "system rescue cd". The club will have a copy of it available for copying.
With the rescue cd, I shrunk the freshly installed XP portionfrom 18 to 8 gigabytes, and kept 10 gigabytes for Ubuntu. I could have shrunk XP further, but I didn't see any need to do that.
