We will provide a little background history, explain just what Linux *is* and what advantages it offers to the user of a PC, show how to run a trial version of the operating system from a CD-rom, and demonstrate e-mail downloading, web browsing, using one of the word processors, changing the desktop background, scanning a photo, downloading digital photos from a camera, and printing photos.
So be there for an exciting demo of free, robust software!
Nearly all Linux software, both the operating system and the applications, is free. We can supply installation disks to anyone who wants to try out Linux. Documentation is built in to most of the applications, and extensive on-line help is available, as well. Furthermore, some applications work "exactly" (!?!) like their Windows counterparts; so documentation is hardly necessary.
There are two recent books which give keystroke-by-keystroke instructions for installation of two somewhat versions of Linux, as well as how to use the numerous applications which come bundled with the OS and are automatically installed.
Both of the books below come with CD's containing the operating system and lots of application software.
