Be On-time. Volunteers should arrive at 7:30AM to receive group instructions and safety tips for the day. A specific schedule and completion date is being maintained for each home project so please show up on-time for your work day. Rain Policy. Much of our building can still happen even if there is a light drizzle. However, heavy rain or rain with lightning is not safe for our volunteers and may cause building work to be cancelled. If in doubt about a weather cancellation call the Volunteer Hotline Saturday morning at least one hour before scheduled build time for an update on building plans for the day at 602-262-8679. Patience and Flexibility. Scheduling is imperfect, be understanding if the work you anticipated doing on any given day has been changed due to weather and other schedule changes. Dress with Safety in Mind. Clothing should not be baggy or loose. Long hair should be pulled back. No open shoes or sandals-work boots are best- but sneakers are ok. Wear clothes that you won't mind getting dirty or paint stained. Dress for work not fashion, no tank tops please. Sun screen and a hat are recommended. Age Limitations. No one under 16 is permitted on the construction site. Must be at least 18 to use power tools or be on the roof. Experience is Not Required but Always Welcome. If you are uncertain how to do a task, or operate a power tool, ask your crew leader. Personal Tools. Volunteers will be provided all of the tools required for the work, however volunteers may choose to bring their own hand tools and tool belts. It's Not all Work and No Play. One of the great things about being a volunteer is the opportunity to get to know the other volunteers, take time to meet, greet and share with others. |
