Cybershells
Cybershells are basically robots without software. The sophisticated software required to animate a cybershell is called an Infomorph, a being of digital intelligence. Cybershells are designed for a
multitude of uses. Any job or function that could be done by a computer is likely to have a cybershell built to do it.

Description: Aerorovers are triphibian utility cybershells. First
developed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and NASA, they took part in the early
unmanned exploration of Titan, and their more advanced descendents are still in
use as a cheap all-terrain mobot favored by planetologists, pipeline workers,
and teletourists. Most kids growing up on Titan have remotely-piloted an
aerorover at one time or another - they own, rent, and even race them.
A typical Aerorover is a triangular-frame cybershell consisting of three
thick-walled helium-filled balloons (each about 5 feet in diameter), all joined
by a skeletal frame to a single central module, which houses the power plant,
ducted fan propulsion unit, steering mechanism, electric drivetrain, and
payload. The three balloons not only provide lift, but also act as an
undercarriage (serving as airbags in the event of a hard lading), as floats, and
as wheels. A standard accessory is an arm that can anchor the unit to the
ground or pick up objects. The balloons are over-inflated so that in the
event of a puncture, the remaining two balloons will be sufficient to keep the
vehicle buoyant.
In aerobot mode, the aerorover can fly at any altitude of
up to five miles, venting helium as needed to control its descent. Since
this will eventually flatten its balloon wheels, the aerobot is fitted with a
reinflation system that allows the replacing of helium in its balloons with
atmospheric gas, ensuring the balloon wheels can remain inflated to run on the
ground when all the helium is vented. The aerorover has sufficient helium
for between 1-4 weeks of operation, depending on the amount of maneuvering it
performs.
In rover mode, the standard aerorover is capable of speeds
across Titan terrain of 10-15 mph. It can clamber over obstacles up to 2'
high, float in Titan's lakes, or cross muddy terrain with ease. The power
plant is sufficient for one week of surface operations.
The aerorover is the size of a small car, but weighs only 50 lbs. (7lbs. on titan).

Description: The Afrit is the Islamic Caliphate's top of the line close combat heavy cybershell. Big, fast, and strong, it is designed to deliver punishing damage to opposing cybershells, vehicles, and troops. With a
decidedly non-humanoid appearance, the Afrit is designed to terrify opponents as well as destroy them. Its two front limbs end in assault pods, with retractable hands for manipulation. Its rear limbs are reversed, like those of a bird or dinosaur; its anti-materiel rifle is mounted on the crest of its back. About two-thirds of the Caliphate's Afrit forces are teleoperated; the rest are inhabited by citizen AIs. 8' tall, 450 lbs.
