We Need Volunteers!
If you want to help out in the following areas to make us a strong and fun-filled chapter, please send an email or call Kit Wertz at 310-373-0295.

Event Planning
If you are thinking of a group event in San Diego, Orange County or LA County for the JMU alumni chapter, please contact us. We can help coordinate the event and get the word out. Please allow about a two-month lead time for any events.

Alumni Association Recruiting Network (AARN)
The Alumni Association Recruitment Network is a program that has evolved over the past few years. The aim is to join alumni and the Office of Admission together in the mission to recruit the best high school students to apply to JMU.

Alumni are asked to attend college fairs throughout the year to promote James Madison University. Your chapter will be notified of an upcoming college fair in your area well in advance by the chapters coordinator. The chapter will be provided with ample materials and supplies so that the representatives in attendance will feel adept at answering questions from the students. Supplies are passed out yearly at the Leadership Conference. At Least two members from our area are needed but more than two are certainly welcome!

Distinguished Alumni Award Nominations
We can discuss this at our next chapter meeting (TBD) but to give you some background, each year the Office of Alumni Relations makes a call for nominations for the Distinguished Alumni Award. The award recipients are honored at the annual Homecoming Gala in the fall.

To ensure that we are aware of all the great successes our alumni are achieving, we feel that the chapter leaders and volunteers are some of the best resources to name such individuals.

Nominations include alumni who have excelled in the workplace or in their communities. To view the nomination form, please visit www.jmu.edu/alumni. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Sherry King, Associate Director of Alumni Relations.

Book Scholarship Fundraising
Do you have an idea of how our chapter can raise $300 each year (starting this year) to help a current southern California resident JMU student?

Raising money for a chapter scholarship can be one of the most rewarding programs a chapter can establish. While college tuition becomes more and more expensive each year, college students are always receptive to any aid they may be able to receive. Therefore, the Office of Alumni Relations encourages you to help a current student from your geographic area by awarding them a scholarship.

We recognize that by hosting only one event per year, it can be difficult to raise much money. That is why we have set the standard at $300.00.
The gift will be awarded to a current student during the spring semester of their senior year. This $300.00 will be awarded for the sole purpose of purchasing textbooks for the senior. We hope that this gift will encourage recipients to get involved with an alumni chapter after they graduate (hopefully back to the chapter area where the gift was made!)
