Slowly, I began lusting after old BMWs. I started looking for a used K1, R90S or R100RS. After seeing the prices those models commanded I modified my search for a K75C, R80ST or R65. I found the beautiful R65 pictured below locally. This bike was a joy to ride in the country. I had it for a year and a half and rode it to only one rally. I enjoyed riding it all over the Catskills, but it was often left behind for the acceleration and braking of the R1100R. So, I sold it to pay off an IRS debt and clear the garage.

My BMW R65 Monolever

In 2005 I started thinking about buying a new bike. Not that I needed one but I wanted one and the new BMW R1200ST was just what I wanted. Unfortunately, the non-ABS/Power/Linked brakes version was very rare in the states. Plus, the price without bags was around $15,000! When 2006 rolled around there were plenty of these BMWs available but the price didn't come down. So I started looking at the Ducati ST3 as an alternative. There were a few 2005 leftovers, the price was $12,000 and bags were included! I decided it was the bike I just had to have. A discount made it a done deal. Below is a photo of my new Ducati ST3.
