Karen Martin is the Band Director and General Music Teacher at Villa de Paz Elementary (K-8) School in west Phoenix, where she instructs band, music, guitar and keyboard lab classes. She also assists with the choral program and the district jazz band program and is a mentor teacher. She has been teaching music in the Pendergast School District since 1984, and had previously taught in northern Arizona for three years.

Miss Martin is also an adjudicator at various Arizona Music Educator Association festivals and is an adjunct instructor of guitar at Estrella Mountain Community College. She was recently chosen to conduct the Arizona Elementary All-State Band Festival to be held in March of 2000.

A native of Indiana, Miss Martin received degrees in Instrumental Music Education from both DePauw University and Indiana State University. She has pursued extensive post-graduate and doctoral studies in instrumental music and elementary and secondary education at Arizona State University. Miss Martin has performed regularly as principal French Hornist in the Glendale Community Band, Glendale City Band and the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, as well as participating with Scottsdale, Mesa and Metro Pops Symphony Orchestras.

Miss Martin is a long-time member of Arizona Music Educators Association (AMEA) and their national affiliate, Music Educators National Conference (MENC). She continues to be a strong advocate of school and community music programs.
