Back to School Shopping Tips

Aside From Thinking About What You're Buying, Think About How You're Buying

August 2004 (Newstream) --

ANCHOR LEAD: Shopping for back to school? Matt Kelly has these tips to make getting what you need a little easier. (:54) SCRIPT: Lifestlyes, I'm Matt Kelly. It's back to school time, and that means shopping for clothes, computers, books and backpacks. But while your mind is probably on what you're buying, you should also think about how you're buying. Gerri Detweiler is the author of The Ultimate Credit Handbook.

CUT: (Detweiler) I recommend that you use a check card when back to school shopping. First, choose a check card that helps you keep track of what you spend so you can stay within your budget. Check cards can also be safer than cash and the money is deducted directly from your checking account. To also help protect yourself from fraud and reward yourself when making purchases, Bank of America offers a check card with your photo on the front and airline reward programs that include frequent flier miles.

SCRIPT: And, Detweiler says, using a check card is faster than writing a check, since all you do is swipe and go. For more tips visit www.bankofamerica.com/debitcardtips. I'm Matt Kelly.
