Republican National Convention - RNC and protesters

Republican National Convention - RNC and protesters

In 1968, Protesters in Chicago at the Democratic convention thought they were promoting peace. America heard a warning about anarchy. This may be the same message which the protestors at the RNC end up communicating. Richard Nixon's acceptance speech and commercials proclaimed that "the first civil right of every American is to be free from domestic violence."

Website for the Republican National Convention.

Let those who have the responsibility to enforce our laws, and our judges who have the responsibility to interpret them, be dedicated to the great principles of civil rights. But let them also recognize that the first civil right of every American is to be free from domestic violence. And that right must be guaranteed in this country.
-- Richard Nixon, August 8, 1968, Acceptance of the Republican Party Nomination for President
