Doctor's Parody CDs Offer Holiday Tonic For Medical & Legal Malaise
November 2004 (Newstream) - The pied piper of policies, Dr. Sam and his issue-driven Blues Bands, is prescribing parody as the gifts for healing hard feelings this season. If laughter is the best medicine, then this physician-musician and his artist-sidekicks have produced hilarious remedies for professionals, healthcare providers and attorneys, and the insurance-suffering public.
"We're just using an innovative way to call attention to issues that everyone has to deal with, in a non-inflammatory, fun manner that sparks discussion," says physician-advocate, Dr. Sam Bierstock. "I could engage in yet another serious debate, or create some great music with song titles like Sorry Man, But Your Bypass is Considered Cosmetic, and make the same points. Our music and lyrics get the dialog going."
Dr. Sam's latest CD release with his "Frivolous Action Blues Band" is titled Goin Bare, an homage to the malpractice insurance crisis that drives some physicians to gamble on foregoing insurance altogether - and everyone else impacted by frivolous legal actions. The album features nine songs, some performed to familiar tunes, some original tunes, and includes the breakout hit, When You Wish To Sue A Star. Other titles include They've Got Deep Pockets - Let's Sue, A Ploy Named Countersue, Oh Humana, The Jury Consultant Blues, and Back Spasm Woman.
The continuing healthcare policy debate is why sales remain steady for Dr. Sam's first CD, with his "Managed Care Blues Band" entitled Minimal Service, including the hilarious ballad You Picked A Fine Time To Leave Me Blue Shield.
