ROAD LOG TO THE HEAD OF THE BLUE SPRINGS TRAIL
Mile 0.0 Junction of East Rim Drive and E-14 fire road, just east of East Entrance Station at Desert View, turn left on E-14
2.9 Forks, keep right, staying on main road
5.6 Park boundary, "No Mining or Prospecting" sign
5.7 Forks, keep right, (left fork goes around Cedar Mountain)
8.6 Forks, on ridge due east of Cedar Mountain, go left - the poorer of the two roads
9.6 Go up hill, pole corral below and on your right (east)
10.3 Large dirt tank, follow tracks to north
10.4 Junction, take sharp turn to left
12.6 Forks, go right (left fork to hogan)
13.6 On top of ridge looking due north at Gold Hill. Aim for Gold Hill, as trailhead is on east side of this Butte.
15.6. Road enters large open valley, follow tracks north along western side of the valley.
16.6 Hogan and corrals at east base of Gold Hill, go right (east) toward earth tank. The track north from hogan joins the Cape Solitude road.
17.0 Earth tank, turn left (north) and go up steep hill (the zig-zag tracks up hill are visible from hogan at 16.6)
19.0 Rim of the Little Colorado Gorge, USGS cairn, Blue Springs immediately below. The trail starts off of the next point and ridge to the north. Cross rocky valley on your left (north), there is no road down into the valley from where you are, but it is possible with a jeep. A road is visible climbing out of the valley to the north to the ridge the trailhead is on. Go up this ridge to the crest then right to the end of the point. Off the point is an island connected to the point by a shallow saddle with a stone sheep wall across it. The trail starts from the far side of the saddle and takes off to your right. The only marking is a wood lathe stuck in the ground with "Blue Springs Trail" penciled on it. Past the lathe about 25 feet is a scrubby tree where you start the descent.
