Note that you do not need to bring everything listed below on every trip! These are just lists to jog your mind about things you might want to do and bring, and you should tailor your list for each trip.

To do before the day of the hike

  • Buy and prepare food.
  • Fill up car with gas.
  • Get cash?
  • Buy ice?
  • Load up pack, except for water and food.
  • Charge radio and phone.
  • Put half-filled water bottles in freezer?
  • Fill tires with air.
  • Clean out car.
  • Clip toenails short.
  • Find extra car key.
  • Launder hiking clothes.
  • Find needed cards, such as Golden Eagle Passport, AAA card.

To do the morning of the hike

  • Load pack with water and food
  • Apply sunscreen.
  • Set up radio(s).
  • Check weather in the hiking area.
