Minister of
Dance, O.C.D.*
J.P.’s accordion and vocals
give the band its singular identity. He brings 40 years of musical
experience to Black Leather Zydeco, ranging
from school days trumpet through Peter, Paul and Mary style folk music to
Old-time banjo.
He has played
over a dozen instruments in Old-Time,
Bluegrass,
Country-Rock and Celtic bands, all past and now forgotten.
With a bachelor’s
degree in music, he teaches private lessons on all the folk strings, as
well as keyboard, accordion and music theory. Check out themusicianmaker.com.
For the past nine years, J.P. has concentrated
on the dance music of southwestern Louisiana, emphasizing the Zydeco style of the Creole culture. He primarily
plays the diatonic one-row button accordion (that’s a Jr. Martin B flat
Cajun accordion with Salpa reeds, if you're
taking notes).
