in Lancaster Co., PA. John and Margaret were good friends with the Dills of

The sons and daughters of James Williams and Rebecca Johnston have been found

on his will. Most likely James and Rebecca are buried in Juniata Co. PA in the

Lower Tuscarora Cemetery at the Tuscarora Academy.  Their farm was 89 acres

of land located in a peninsula of land formed by a small bend in the Tuscarora

river about 2 miles S. of Academia, PA. James' signature is on the original

will in the Mifflin Co. Court House .  Previous to Juniata Co. there was land

warranted to James in 1753 on the S. Slope of Blue Mountain near Carlisle, PA

Twp. Indian Co. PA in 1780. Built a log cabin and trapper Hut. He served in the

Revolutionary War as Pvt. Cumberland Co. Militia, 7th Co. 5th Battalion. This

is noted in the PA Archives, Series 5, Vol 4).

Benoni married Kathryn Bracken and Margaret married Samuel Williams, youngest

brother.  The three daughters were the wards of Capt. Matthew Dill who had

Samuel was the one son to stay in Beale Twp, Juniata County. His will named

all his living children. Will was probated 16-Nov-1853. Death Notice of Samuel

says he died in Fayette Twp, Juniata Co. on October 30, 1853 at the age of 85.

This age would have given him a birth date of 1768, the same as Benoni.

John moved from Brush Valley, PA to Coshocton Co. OH in 1810 (two years after

his younger brother Richard had moved there). He married Annis there and had

four children. After her death he and the four children moved back in 1826 and

built the Williams home and barn at Winslow, Gaskill Twp. Jefferson Co, PA.

Barn was still standing as of 1994.

Richard moved out from OH to Illinois with at least 2 sons and 2 nephews.

Richard died less than four years after moving and is buried in Pleasant Hill

Cem. in McLean CO. IL.  Apparently Richard was married to a Charity Wiggins

23 months before he married Margaret. Her sisters Sarah and Mary Wiggins died

soon after their marriages. It is possible Charity died in child birth.

Obituary in the Lexington Paper says Margaret came out to Illinois with

her husband Richard Williams Jr. and had 12 children which I can only account

for seven. As a widow Margaret was  living as head of household with her 5

youngest children. She later lived with her son Richard R. and wife Matilda

according to the 1870 census.

John was a young boy of six when he traveled with his father Richard and

family to their new home near Plainfield, OH. They had come from Wheatfield

Twp. formerly of Westmoreland Co. PA.  John was one of the few children who

stayed in the area after the 1850's. He was a farmer, Cabinet Maker, and

raiser sheep in this wolf infested area. He also buried a son who died in the

Civil War.
