John made a profession of religion too, at the ag e of 13 years, in the Methodist Church, and soon was promoted to be clas s leader, and later in life in the I.O.O.F.. In 1861 he enlisted in the s ervice of his country, and all throughlife stood firm, for the cause fo r which he fought.
The funeral services wereheld at Bolton and interment took place in Sprin ger Cemetery. Four Prominent Physicians attended his funeral in honor o f the profession. There was a large attendence at his services.
John served in the Civil War for 4 months in 1861, took measles and was d ischarged (Military census of 1890). He died of Pneumonia. John and his w ife Susan Mariah Howerton are buried in the same grave.
