John Beals was one among the earliest immigrants and most likelywas one of
the immigrants with the John Fenwick colony that came to America in1675,
sailing in the ship "Griffin", and settled at Salem, NJ. However,no
authentic proof has been found to confirm this theory.
John Beals I was married to Mary Clayton, dau of William Clayton Srand his

in August of 1978, a trip to the Fort Wayne Library, GenealogyDivision,
revealded a book entitled THE BALES FAMILIES IN EAST TENNESSEE, byClarence

listed--four gold nuggets in one panning.
Mr. Bales claims that the family is typical of pioneer familiesin
America. John I settled in PA before William Penn got his grant.John's
descendants moved to Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee,Kentuc ky
Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Kansas before they were states.
