2002 Packers in Limerick Form

For the past several seasons I've been sending out weather forecasts for on-line Packer fans. I usually include a remark, sometimes insightful, sometimes witty, sometimes just plain wrong, about what I expect from each game. During 1996 I began including limericks (or reasonable facsimilies), in some of the forecasts, as time and inspiration allowed. The following is a compilation of the limericks from the 2002-03 season. Note: You might have to be a Packer fan to pick up on some of the inside jokes, and because most were written before the game, they don't all accurately reflect what actually occurred in each game.

Falcons at Packers

The Falcons visit, starring Michael Vick,
With an arm quite strong and moves so quick,
But Packers better beware,
Of lanes, better take care,
And not give up a score on the opening kick.

Falcons at Packers, postgame

Vick and the heat had 'em in a stagger,
But the Pack played the OT with swagger,
Brett Favre was keen,
Finding Walker and Green,
Then Longwell came in to deliver the dagger.

Packers at Saints, postgame

Why the Pack can't perform on plastic floors,
Was ingrained while tots of threes or fours,
Were told to wait on Pop,
Soon their tails he'd whop,
If they didn't stop playing football indoors.

Panthers at Packers

Not such a trick was shown to Mr. Knox,
A team still perfect out of the blocks,
They were under the gun,
Having won only one,
When in came their Fox in socks.

Packers at Bears (Champaign)

If Mac, the Bears' chief excavator,
Said work would be finished much later,
They'd rename to Staleys,
Say goodbye to the Daleys,
And move the team back to Decatur.

Packers at Patriots

The schedule does the Packers no favors,
Nigh past a tilt with the Illinois Cavers,
To the east they must tramp,
And meet the Superbowl Champ,
At the site that was financed by shavers.

Redskins at Packers

The Skins' Snyder wooed the Florida Kaiser,
Giving ulcers to his financial advisor,
As he put up big bucks,
To see the ball chucks,
In the schemes of his new Coach Visor.

Dolphins at Packers

The bye week came through quite big,
For restoring the Brett Favre jig;
Its quite undeniable,
That our QB's pliable,
As others might've snapped like a twig.
