2008 Packers in Limerick Form

For about a dozen seasons I've been sending out weather forecasts for on-line Packer fans. I usually include a remark, sometimes insightful, sometimes witty, sometimes just plain wrong, about what I expect from each game. During 1996 I began including limericks (or reasonable facsimilies), in some of the forecasts, as time and inspiration allowed. The following is a compilation of the limericks from the 2008 season. Note: You might have to be a Packer fan to pick up on some of the inside jokes, and because most were written before the game, they don't all accurately reflect what actually occurred in each game.

Enjoy.

Vikings at Packers

The Vikes try to steal the national stage,
Storming the shores, the Pack to engage;
Our new man under center,
May be a team reinventor,
When the Pack boldly begins a new page.

Packers at Lions

Aaron set the fans all aglow,
Marching downfield by run or by throw;
Things are looking up,
For the Pack's new pup,
With his starting career now one-and-oh.

Cowboys at Packers

This Sunday night, set your chrono,
For a big event that needs no promo,
An aerial show,
Comes to Lambeau,
Pack versus 'Boys, Rodgers 'gainst Romo.

Packers at Buccaneers

This week its our duty,
To mix drinks cold 'n fruity,
As the Pack hits the tropics,
To break the Bucs' pockets,
And walk off with their booty.

Falcons at Packers

Into Titletown the Falc's are flyin',
While to halt a skid the Pack's atryin;
To keep Aaron fine,
Is the goal of our line,
While the Falcs' will be saving Private Ryan.

Packers at Seahawks

In catch-up mode, tempus fugit,
So then run, pass or pooch it,
But a defensive stop,
Would help a lot,
As the Pack goes to the Sound of Puget.

Colts at Packers

Pack versus Colts is played in fourths;
Should the first two be a show of force,
May the third frame pass,
So that by the last,
The Pack may continue beating a dead horse.

Packers at Titans

A week gone by for woolen shopping,
Walleye fishin' and woodbin chopping;
Now ready for winter,
The Pack goes a'hinter,
To try their hand at Titan toppling.

Packers at Vikings

In the opening game, in case you forgot,
The Pack won the tilt, but not by a lot;
That was at home,
But now in the dome,
The Pack will take on A.D. and Ferotte.

Bears at Packers

Once again there'll be sold-out seating,
To bestow a rather tepid greeting,
When the Chi-town Bears,
Emerge from their lairs,
For the hundred-seventy-sixth meeting.

Packers at Saints

Packer fans, their heads acheesy,
Leave northwoods air, now crisp and breezy,
To follow their team,
The big gold and green,
To Crescent City, the Big Easy.

Panthers at Packers

On each Packer run, pass and punt,
They must give an extra grunt,
As it needn't be pretty,
But they must bag this kitty,
Just to stay in the playoff hunt.

Texans at Packers

From Houston they come to do battle,
Big wells, big ranches, all prattle,
While the Pack sets to prove,
That they've got the groove,
And the Texans big hats, but no cattle.

Packers at Jaguars

The offense has seen some new snags,
And the defense sometimes sags;
Lets hope the hiccups cease,
When the Pack heads southeast,
Where they are set to take on the Jags.

Packers at Bears

Problems, oh, now there's a slew,
An' they're settin' Titletown askew;
Will Bear week again,
Find the Pack on the mend,
When Orton hears a Who?

Lions at Packers

A closing win would be great,
Reversing some trends as of late,
So clap those mittens,
To snuff-out the kittens,
And make them Oh-for-Two-Thousand-Eight.
